ABOUT

Charlotte Corderoy is a London-based conductor/MD and a graduate of The Royal Academy of Music, London. She is Assistant Conductor to the CBSO (City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra) for their 2023/24 season.

The 2023/2024 season will see Charlotte make the following professional debuts: 

  • The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Cadogan Hall (Guest Conductor, Sheherazade)

  • Swedish Chamber Orchestra & Swedish Radio Choir (Assistant Conductor, The Rake's Progress - Equilibrium Young Artist)

  • Opera Holland Park (Principal Conductor, The Barber of Seville)

 

Her recent work includes: 

  • Glyndebourne Festival Opera (Assistant Conductor, Don Giovanni)

  • The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (British Youth Opera, Three Choirs Festival, The Pilgrim's Progress)

  • Opera Holland Park (Associate Conductor, Hansel & Gretel)

  • Leicester Curve Theatre (Musical Director, Kiss Me Kate NYMT)

Charlotte's other positions also include Assistant Conductor to Barbara Hannigan in a Stravinsky recording produced by Linn Records, as well as Assistant Conductor for British Youth Opera’s 2022 production of Vaughan-Williams’ Sir John in Love.

In 2022 she assisted Jonathan Berman at the Aldeburgh Festival, premiering eight new works with the Britten Pears Contemporary Ensemble.

As of September 2022, she was appointed Musical Director of the Royal Academy of Music's inaugural Junior Musical Theatre Department. Further theatre credits include Keys Dep for Strictly Ballroom the Musical UK Tour, and Rehearsal Pianist for Only Fool's and Horses The Musical, on London's West End.

She is also one of seven women invited by the Royal Philharmonic Society to front a new scheme for female conductors in association with the Royal Northern Sinfonia at Sage Gateshead.

She began her musical journey as a pianist and organist. During her undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford, she held an Organ Scholarship at Hertford College, as well as Principal Conductorship of the Oxford University Philharmonia and the Oxford Contemporary Opera Society

Charlotte was the first student in Oxford's history to hold the conductorship of the Philharmonia alongside the Conducting Scholarship of Schola Cantorum, Oxford's premier chamber choir. 

She also became interested in showcasing contemporary music to new audiences, and was MD for the UK premiere of British composer Gavin Bryars' chamber opera Marilyn Forever. 

More recently, her time at the Royal Academy of Music has seen her receive coaching from conductors including Edward Gardner OBE (LPO), Sir Mark Elder (Hallé), John Wilson (John Wilson Orchestra) and Daniel Capps (NYC Ballet).

Charlotte's passions extend to Musical Theatre and Music Education. As someone who enjoys working with young people, she has held positions at Sherborne School and Charterhouse School in Surrey.  While at Charterhouse she was Musical Director for a production of Schönberg's Les Misérables, and played Keys 1 for Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along at the Royal Academy of Music in July 2022.
